Mr Leong Wai Tong commenced his construction career in 1976, in Macau. In the beginning, he was a construction site worker and later promoted to a managerial position. In the past 40 years, Mr Leong had participated in numerous large and small projects, including: Macau International Airport, Hengqin Lotus Bridge, Macau Cultural Center, Macau Court of Final Appeal, Macau Legislative Council Building and Government Public Housing projects, etc. He had also participated, basically, in the construction of all major bridges being built in Macau since the 70s and possesses valuable experience in bridge construction.
With more than 30 years of construction experience in Macau Mr Leong started Da Tong Engineering Consultancy Co Ltd in 2012. The main business scope of the company is to provide full construction consultancy service from design, construction, supervisory to quality control. The company is specialized to provide consultancy and contracting services in engineering design, waterproofing and site safety supervisory.
Since its establishment, Da Tong Engineering Consultancy Co Ltd has participated and completed a number of major projects, including: painting work for government public housing projects and Victory Gate at Studio City, safety inspection work at the City of Dreams project, road network at The Galaxy Phase 1. Currently, the company is providing site safety management service to the MGM COTAI project.
Major waterproofing projects completed in recent years include: Four Seasons Hotel (waterproofing and structural safety supervisory work), The Venetian, Studio City, The Wynn (façade waterproofing) and public housing project in Ching Chou, etc.
Over the years, Mr Leong has continued to further his studies and research on the improvement of construction site safety and the work environment. He stresses that the safety and health of workers are top priorities without compromise. Mr Leong founded AMOSHP in 2009, a non-profit organization which focus on the improvement of the work environment and upgrade of work place safety management. Members of AMOSHP are work safety specialists and professionals engaging in construction safety.
Finally, Mr Leong said Macau’s construction industry will continue to flourish, there is an acute shortage of skilled construction workers and the problem will be more serious in the coming years. He hopes the government will put more resources in providing more training courses on work safety and to support related local organizations to achieve the ultimate goal of “ZERO Accident.”
